Tip: Check for any activities going on downtown that may interfere with tour. Comicon prevented us from seeing Gaslamp District...

"Overall good - disappointing end to the day"

We booked this tour and overall I will say that it was great value. The drivers were good. We mostly had Phil (with one L) and Mark who were welcoming, knowledgeable and professional. It was made very clear to us that we MUST be back at Seaport Villiage in time to get the shuttle back to our hotel. We made sure we did this, arriving at the stop at 15.55. An employee named Margaret asked us if we had been informed that the 16.05 shuttle was delayed. We told her we had not. She advised we could expect a delay of around 20-25 minutes and advised us not to go too far away. Accordingly we browsed around the souvenir shop right where the shuttle stops. We came out of the shop at 16.10 only to be told we were “late” and the shuttle had left. I asked where Margaret was and was told she had gone for the day, even though we told her we would just be in the shop just in case her advice was incorrect or had changed. The employee we spoke to did seem to understand what had happened and insisted we were late!!!!! NO we were NOT! Ended up having to pay for an Uber ride. Left a sour taste. If not for this I would have rated higher.

"The best way to see San Diego- be sure to find Boxcar"

We signed up for the hop on/off trolley tour thinking we would hop off at each stop to do a bit of exploring throughout the day. We started the tour fairly early, so we had lots of time. We enjoyed our guide, Boxcar, SO much that we decided to stay on the same trolley for the entire tour (we did not get off at the stops) the first time around. Boxcar is a natural speaker, very funny and extremely informative! Highly recommend the tour!!!!

We had such a great time on this tour! Our tour guide, Boxcar, was hilarious and very informative! Such a great way to get a good overview of the whole city ! We did this early in our trip so we got to see what areas we wanted to come back to another time but we started later (2pm) so we just rode the whole tour straight through without getting off for any time at any stops, which you can do if there is time. Some stops last trolly pick up time is at 430 and none pick up past 5. So if we had it to do over we would have started early in the day to take full advantage of the transportation and would stop awhile at some of the drop points and catch the next trolly. But it was still great just staying on the trolly for the continuous tour for two hours. Part of why we didn’t get off was because our driver was so much fun! Do this tour!

Taking the trolley tour was a great way to get the lay of the land in San Diego. It hits all the tourist traps you want to visit. You get a great deal if you get a two day pass. Just make sure you don’t miss the last one! The drivers were knowledgeable about the town and history. Very beneficial.

Frequently Asked Questions about Old Town Trolley Hop-on Hop-off Sightseeing Tour

How long does the tour last?
It lasts two hours if you don’t get off. Otherwise, make an entire day of the hop-on, hop-off tour with 11 different stops in San Diego and Coronado. You may hop on and off at any one of our convenient stops throughout the entire day. Depending on your start time, you may also use your ticket to enjoy your tour in segments by hopping off at one or two of our distinctive stops on the loop. The number of stops you can explore in one day depends on the time of year that you are touring and the amount of time you have on the day of your tour.

If you wish to stay on board your trolley and enjoy our fascinating narrative presenting a great overview of “America’s Finest City” without hopping on and off, the entire loop takes approximately two hours.

What time do the tours start?
The Old Town Trolley Tour begins every day (except Thanksgiving and Christmas) at 9:00 am at the Old Town Depot; however, you can begin your tour at any of our stops. Please note: Each stop has a different starting time.

Our trolleys come by approximately every 30 minutes, though times may vary slightly due to traffic conditions and city events. Depending on demand, the time of year, day of the week, and time of day, our in-field dispatchers often put more trolleys in the tour loop at an increased frequency. We are San Diego's most popular tour, and during peak times, we cannot guarantee that each trolley will have available seats.

Are your trolleys wheelchair accessible?
Please allow 24-hour advance notice to arrange for wheelchair accessibility. We will make every effort to provide reasonable accommodations for persons with disabilities.

How do I get to Old Town?
Our Old Town Trolley Depot is located at the Old Town Market on 4010 Twiggs Street and San Diego Avenue in the heart of Old Town San Diego, the Birthplace of California about a four minute drive from the "Old Town Exit" on Interstate 5. Public transportation and parking are available at this stop.
