"Great place for a conference"
TripAdvisor user rating 4 out of 5
Reviewed October 19, 2017 NEW
I stayed in this hotel for five days for a conference, and I enjoyed my time here. I had a room on a high floor in the renovated Royal Palm tower, and had no concerns. The room was clean, spacious, and had a private balcony - perfect for relaxing between sessions. I only ate at the hotel for the catered events in my conference, but the food was decent - better than some other sites I've been at. The staff were, to a person, friendly and helpful. There are several pool areas, and several different areas for relaxing. The fitness center is a decent size and had plenty of cardio and weight machines. More open space for stretching/floor exercise would have been nice. Also, Fashion Valley Mall is just across the street behind the complex, and has several good restaurants and shopping opportunities.

"Outdated, Overpriced and Misleading"
TripAdvisor user rating 1 out of 5

I stayed at this conference for 3 nights for a conference. I stayed here about 6 years ago for the same conference and the rooms were absolutely horrible then. I vowed not to return; however, the website and representative indicated that the place had been renovated, so I decided to give it another try....Poor decision!!! 1. Outdated and Unclean: The rooms are straight from the 1970s, with teal blue carpet, floral print wall paper, brass light and sink fixtures, old dilapidated furniture, floor based air conditioner units, cheap irons and ironing boards, etc. The carpet extended all the way to the bathroom....yuck!!! 2. Overpriced: Anything over $100 for these old rooms is a rip-off. 3. Misleading: Here is an excerpt from their website: "..the new Town and Country is a modern expression of the 1960’s Southern California vibe..." When I made my reservation, the representative talked about how the place had been renovated; which is why I decided to try the hotel again. Well when I got there, they gave me an old moldy, humid and hot room. I called them and informed them that I cannot stay in such a room. They switched me to another room, that was slight better, as at least it wasn't hot and moldy. When I mentioned that I thought all the rooms had been renovated, the receptionist stated that only certain parts of the towers had been renovated. The website nor does their booking agent disclose this information, so you don't find this out until you are already there. I was so disappointed. Then they tell me that they cannot upgrade me to a renovated room because the reserved slot of conference rooms was booked at a certain rate. The photos shown on their website are misleading and do NOT adequately represent this hotel, as only a small set of the rooms look like the hotel website photos. Pros: 1. Friendly staff 2. Renovated rooms are great - do NOT get an unrenovated one! 3. Pretty grounds 4. Great fitness center -- bikes, treadmills, ellipticals, free weights, circuit training weights, medicine balls, pull up bars, etc Cons: 1. Unclean - moldy, mildewed, ancient carpet 2. Unstylish - ugly fabric, wallpaper, accents 3. Not really close to anything. There is an upscale mall behind the hotel but other than that there's nothing there. 4. Not a hotel but really a MOTEL...the doors on more than 90% of the rooms are all on the exterior of the building!!! There was only one small building with interior room entrances. 5. Overpriced - they need to demolish half of the property. The exterior of the buildings reveal chipped paint, rotten wood, rust stains, discolored metal, etc. I DO NOT recommend this place to anyone unless you get a renovated room. One of my friends had a renovated room and it was amazing...it actually looked like the photos shown on their website. MAKE SURE YOU SPECIFICALLY ASK FOR A RENOVATED ROOM AND GET IT IN WRITING WHEN YOU BOOK! My advice to the management team: Be honest with your customers (don't falsely advertise) and indicate that you are in the process of renovations....all the rooms have not been completely renovated!!! Let's be honest, less than 50% of the rooms have been renovated!!! Also, the name Town & Country does not have to reflect an outdated country appearance, you can preserve that country style with a modern flair and clean amenities. Check out my photos!

Very dated. Definitely needs redoing. Was not happy with cleaning staff did not refill needed items. Outrageously expensive mixed drinks at Charlie's. Sat at an outside table at Charlie's with no light so we couldn't see our food. Told waitress who didn't seem to care.

"Extremely overpriced"

I don’t often write reviews, but in this case I will, because I think I owe it to others that might choose to stay at this hotel. Where to start? The room. The light fixtures were falling apart, one shade had a huge burn mark, and all shades were very dirty. The TV was a tube TV! The phone was so old the plastic had turned a nasty shade of yellow. Everything else was of a similar age. Maybe there are rooms like those shown in the photos, but if so, I didn’t get to stay in one of them. What I stayed in was a $40 a night motel room. What I paid was $200 per night (without the extra fees they tack on; keep reading). The housekeeping. Terrible. I already mentioned the lampshades. I watched a dead beetle get pushed around the bathroom floor for the duration of our stay. I guess removing it was too much trouble. One day, they didn’t replace the facecloths. The end of a towel had to substitute. Another day they left the bottom sheets on one of the beds rucked up so that it didn’t even cover the bottom quarter of the bed! Restaurants. They claim to have two. They don’t. They don’t have any restaurants. They have a café, where you can get breakfast, etc., and a sports bar. The food at the sports bar is better than you might expect, given the very limited menu choices, and the fact that it’s served on paper plates, but it is not a restaurant by any stretch of the imagination. If what you want is a bar, you should probably go somewhere else anyway. The drink prices are outrageous. Free WiFi? That’s what they claim, but when you check in you get to pay the hidden “resort fee” of $16 per night, and if you ask what that is for, you will find that one of the things it covers is the “free” WiFi. So not so “free” after all. While on the subject of extra charges, make sure you don’t bring a car. They have hundreds of parking spaces (most of which were empty when I was there), but those are not free either. They cost $20 per day. I pay that much for central parking at Boston’s Logan airport! I could go on, but there is no point in doing so. If you have read this review, you now know what to expect if you stay at this hotel.

"Straight out of the ‘70s"

I stayed at the T&C hotel for a business conference. The staff I met was friendly and helpful. However, the place has a feel of a bygone area. I was assigned a room at the Regency Tower, which was a smaller of the two towers. The facilities and rooms were adequate, but felt tired.
