"Not a comfortable place for business travel"

when i'm traveling for work, there are a few things that are most important to me. Comfortable bed, comfortable workspace and seating with good lighting and adequate power outlets and refrigerator. and clean bathroom. The mattress is cheap and not comfortable, nor was the bedding fluffy. the "deluxe" room I was upgraded to here had a separate area with a desk, but the lighting was so dark and poor that it was difficult to do work. I need bright lighting when I'm working. the desk was so long that the electrical outlets were on the far end from where the lighting and main work area was I couldn't have my phone plugged in next to me while I worked. it was super frustrating. it looks like it was designed in the 90's and hasn't been updated since. Also, there was no mini fridge in the room which I really like having because I like my drinks cold and don't want to have to go find ice which also makes a mess when it melts. i likely won't stay here again. Also, I know people love the Gaslamp area, but it just seems super touristy without really good food. The hotel restaurant was awful and had the worst service and there was hardly anyone there. I had to wait forever just for someone to greet me at the front desk of the restaurant to be seated. then the food was really gross, overcooked and not fresh. and they got the second order wrong. I ended up wasting 2 hours trying to get a meal when I only went there for convenience and hopefully a quick dinner which it didn't turn out to be. I will not stay at this hotel again if I can help it. If I don't need to be downtown, I prefer the Marriott Mission Valley which is much nicer, more comfortable and have found some really delicious options at the restaurant (surprisingly!). Mission Valley also has a really nice modern atmosphere that is soothing with seating in the common areas if you want to work out in a more open space and get a cup of coffee, etc.

Super location. Very convienent to stadium, attrcations, etc. Reasonable uber/lyft fare to harbor & airport. Rooms very up to date, especially bathroom. Very clean, modern decor. Very comfy beds. Highly recommend. Only downside was that companion was charged $48 for parking when we had no car, so make them print your bill at check out & look it over!

"Great Location, small rooms, rooftop bar"

So the location is great, the views from the top floor 21 - the concierge level - are great, you can see right into petco park. However there is a rooftop bar and though the noise isn't horrible, you can still hear the bass bumping when you are trying to sleep. Seems like maybe the concierge/vip level should be on floor 20 maybe?? Also the rooms where quite small, beds are definitely NOT queen size they are small full size and you can't even walk between the side against the wall only like 8 inches. The club room was completely locked for most of our stay which is weird, no appetizers on Sat night , but usually you can still go in grab a water, a piece of fruit or a soda. Not sure why they are like that

Friends of mine booked this hotel. I did not know what to expect, however, by having the name Marriott on the signage I knew I would not be disappointed. Greeted with a smile at check-in, after of course the doorman helped us with our luggage, I was already off to a great experience. The rooms were of great size and comfort and the location of the Marriott was perfect. Right at the steps of the Gaslamp district and also Petco Park (home of the Padres Baseball) it's location is awesome. Highly recommended. Definitely check out the roof top bar when you are there.

"good service, great location in Gaslamp District next to PetCo Park, much improved lounge"

Summary: Engaged staff, great location, clean room The last time I stayed at this Marriott was 1 year ago. Last year’s stay was not too smooth, but I decided to give this Marriott another chance. And the staff greatly improved. Arrival experience: I took an Uber from the airport. The doorman quickly removed my luggage from the cab. Efficient check-in. The receptionist, Toni, was very pleasant. I used the Marriott app to check in the day before my arrival. Because I used the app and based on my status, the hotel upgraded me to a small king suite and had everything for me immediately. The upgrade without asking was a pleasant surprise. Additionally, I arrived at 9:00 a.m. and was able to check in and get a quick snack in the concierge lounge before heading to my first meeting of the day. Room overall: Nice king suite; the sitting room is large but the bedroom is somewhat small. Very clean. Furniture is in good condition overall except the couch in the living room was a bit worn and sad looking. The sitting room had a large cabinet with a TV and a drawer-type mini-refrigerator. Also, the sitting room had a couch, chair, and writing desk. The bedroom was a bit small but had a king bed, tiny corner cabinet, and a small wall mounted LG TV. The TVs in the bedroom and the living room were both too small. Also, the lighting in the bedroom was insufficient. Mini-coffee maker with Starbucks pods. Bed: good Marriott issued bed with clean, fresh linens. Bathroom: spacious bathroom with plenty of counter space. The bathroom was well stocked and tidy. Excellent brand new Andis hairdryer. One small gripe- the bathtub didn’t provide piping hot water. I wanted a good, hot soak in the evening and the water never got hot enough. Housekeeping: The room was clean and properly stocked with all expected accoutrements. I only stayed one night. So I cannot comment on other aspects of housekeeping. Restaurants: Restaurant in the lobby and there’s a rooftop bar. I didn’t eat at the restaurant but had breakfast at the Concierge Lounge in the morning. Concierge Lounge: In the afternoon during “off” times, the lounge offered fresh, whole fruit (bananas, oranges) and peanuts. The breakfast offerings consisted of eggs, sausage, fresh fruit, light yogurt, cereals, milk and juices, breads, bagels, and pastries. The sausage was decent but not great. Bacon would have been nice. Staff in the lounge is much improved since my last stay. The young lady working in the morning was very pleasant and service-oriented. I didn’t see any plain yogurt and asked for some. The young lady on duty replied that she could get me some and returned with a very pretty glass bowl of plain yogurt (which I combined with some fresh fruit for a great finish to my breakfast). Overall staff attitude: Front desk staff were all attentive. Concierge Lounge staff were attentive and pleasant. Doormen were gracious. Overall good staff attitude and much improved since my last visit in late October 2017. Misc: Room photos are for room 1019. Overall, the hotel was very quiet, but the power-assisted toilet flushing was loud. Parking: valet parking for $48/night without in and out privileges.
