"Better thanks to Reserve Los Angeles."
July, 2018
My daughter and I had a great time at Universal but it was extremely expensive. The discount tickets we got through ReserveLA made a huge difference.
The rides were fun, but if motion simulator rides make you nauseous, this isnt the park fir you. Even the backlot tour has replaced some of their "events" with motion simulators. Wizarding world of Harry Potter and the Simpson's sections were definitely highlights.

Tip: Bring sunscreen. Universal does a great job of providing shade, but the Southern California sun is deceptive. It doesn't feel that hot and the next thing you know your having your skin checked for melanoma.

Took my granddaughter to this park. It was a blast!! We spent 9 hours at the park and still didn't quite do everything. In hindsight, it would be more economical to get the express upgrade with your package instead of at the park. But in any case, we had a lot of fun!

"Less than expected"
June, 2018
This amusement park focuses primarily on current movies. Hard for grandparents to relate to: Harry Potter, The Minions, Jurassic Park, etc. The rides are properly ID’d as jostling, loud sounds, flashing lights. Not especially good for family outings of varied ages. Special effects show disappointing -expected more descriptions of how SE are achieved. The lot tour was most helpful and interesting.

So much to do at this place. The skip the line tickets proved invaluable to miss the queues and get on as many rides during the day. Food may have been slightly overpriced and of little variation but was to be expected at these resorts.

We were in Hollywood and went to Universal Studios for 2 days. We purchased 2 day tickets on- line from UK, took the prints outs. I now give some important information and advice: 1. Must buy online ticket, take a print and go directly to the gate before the opening time. We went in July 2018 and opening time was from 9am. We went at 8-30am, security check and ticket check took 10 mins and entered in the park at 9-10am. There are Early entry ticket available and with that you can enter early but I don’t see any value by spending extra money as the rides open at their scheduled timings , not early. 2. One of the easiest ways to go to park is take Red line metro, get down at UNIVERSAL stop, come out, cross the road bridge just outside and take free shuttle provided by Universal. All directions are clearly sign posted. 3. These are the following main activities/rides available (latest updated July 2018). I have provided some popularity Index as judged by me : • Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey -Very high • Jurassic Park –Very high • The Simpsons Ride -High • Revenge of the Mummy: The Ride -Average • Special Effects Show -– Hall show at every hour or so (check the schedule) interval- about 400 people can be at a time, so stand in the queue just befor the show time-Average • The Studio Tour- Very high • Universal’s Animal Actors- open air show at every 2 hour or so (check the schedule) interval- about 250 people can be at a time, so stand in the queue just before the show time-Average • Water World: A Live Sea-War Spectacular – open air show at every hour or so (check the schedule) interval- about 500 people can be at a time, so stand in the queue just before the show time-Average • Transformers: The Ride 3D-High • Despicable Me: Minion Mayhem -High • The Walking Dead- Low 4. From the above list, I would recommend to attempt the very popular trips as the first thing in the morning or late hours, so that excess crowd ,mainly due to Conducted trips(11am-4pm) could be avoided. 5. Now I write down some details and tips: a. Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey It is a simulator journey, enjoyable. However, hands are to be kept free and no cameras are allowed. Please keep the bags and cameras in the locker (free for 2 hrs) b. Jurassic Park- Another very enjoyable ride on river boat with cog wheel. You can keep bags below the seats. A plastic bag is highly recommended to keep for camera protection and it is better to put the camera in the bag when the boat rises up at the end for 15-20 ft before a 84ft fall. I took all the photos and kept the camera in the bag at the end before the fall, as there will be lots of water splash in the falls, particularly on the first 2 rows. This 84ft fall is the main charm and since is a guided fall through cog wheel, no big jerking was felt. I purchased a photograph of my fall from their office, which was $17 but completely dissatisfied with the quality. c. The Simpsons Ride – This is also a simulator ride which takes through Krustyland, i.e. the world of The Simpsons. Excellent and funny, no big jerking. d. Revenge of the Mummy This is a roller coaster drive and in some portion it accelerates to 45 miles per hour. I didn’t like this journey and it gave lots of pain due to sudden movement and acceleration. Here alos, hands are to be kept free and no bag is allowed. The journey also looked dull to me. e. Special Effects Show- Excellent show with a live show of human fire, special effects, sky walk etc. Seats also shake to enjoy the live show feeling. f. The Studio Tour- This is a 1 hr long guided tram ride which features backdrops and sets used in many of their films and TV shows. Major attractions are live journey to witness King Kong vs Dinosaur, Artificial rain and flood, Earthquake, Car chasing. Shark as shown in Jaws and Fire explosions are also shown here. I liked it as one of the most entertaining experience. g. Universal Animal Actors- This shows the various animals used for film shootings (like dogs, cats, pigs, owl, parrots, Eagles etc.) with live demonstrations and very enjoyable, particularly for children. h. Water world- I liked it most. It showed a live drama with many demonstrations like human fire, fighting, gunfight with water tank leaking, speedboat actions, fire at various places and at the last, a live sea plane comes, catches fire and falls on the water. A spectacular show and will be remembered by me for rest of my life. i. Transformer- It was a 3D ride and lots of movement which gave me little uneasy feeling. To me the gain was less but the ache was more. Probably young people will enjoy more. Hands are to be kept free and no bag is allowed during the ride. j. Despicable Me is a 3D Ultra-HD movie motion-simulator ride. This ride is very smooth and entertaining due to Minions . I liked it very much. k. The Walking dead- This 15 min walk-through is through the haunting atmosphere and many dead people scares you . I was watching few dead people and one of them suddenly stretched his hand to scare me. Very interesting and not for faint hearted people. Overall, it was very enjoyable.

If you are traveling to California this is 1 place that you definitely must go visit ...and if you are planing to visit keep one separate day as you will find so many interesting this and your day would go by with lots of fun and excitement .... start your day early as possible even though it is opening at 9am its best to get up early and be there before 8.30am ... a one day pass general admission you can get it for about $130 at the gate .. but planing yourself a head you can get a ticket more cheaper if you check online. as you enter the place I recommend walking a bit on the streets of Harry potter which will be on the right hand side .... after spending a couple of hours i recommend to do the universal tour at about 10.15 am ... and straight after the tour which will be about 45 mins go to the lower deck of universal studios and finish the rides, and side seen the place ... I am telling you this as there will be lot in line at the upper deck in the morning and you might be able to save some time by doing so.I also recommend to download the universal app as it will be very easy to find out the times of the shows and don forget to get a map from the gate as well ... this place is a great place to hang out even if you are old ... i highly recommend this place and you will have an amazing time ....
